Radio Active 89FM’s Roots and Culture Show presents an EASTER DUB ALL-STAR SPECIAL!
All roads lead to the SAN FRANCISCO BATH HOUSE on GOOD FRIDAY, 6 APRIL for an EASTER DUB ALL-STAR SPECIAL – THE DANCE OF THE CENTURY! Featuring a massive line-up of Wellington’s most heavyweight crews, special guest selectors, one of the city’s premier Reggae bands plus N.Z.’s finest Reggae vocalists – this will be a night to celebrate the Capital’s bass culture at it’s best! The night will also farewell the one like Daddy Topknot, who is soon to be leaving our shores. The ROOTS AND CULTURE SHOW has been broadcasting on Radio Active 89FM for the past 30 years making it N.Z.’s longest running Reggae show and also one of the best. It runs every Sunday, 4-7pm and is sponsored by The Boardroom.
Headlining the party is SAFARI – this Wellington dub group play inna old-school Jamaican Roots and Dub stylee in the tradition of Reggae greats such as King Tubby, Prince Jammy and Scientist. The five-piece band is made up of members of Zuvuya, Spartacus R and Hikoikoi Reserve and also features RAS STONE on mic control duties. Safari are well-known for their pounding riddims, heavy sub-bass, cutting gat, swirling organ and sweet vocals, combined with modern synths and sequenced programming to create a cool and deadly dubwise sound. They have supported the likes of Lee Perry and The Mad Professor and most recently played at Soundsplash ’07.
Joining Safari are Wellington’s top-ranking sounds – YARDWISE, SOUNDS ALMIGHTY and VITAL SOUNDS – made up from members of Radio Active 89FM’s ROOTS AND CULTURE CREW. Representing on the night will be TOPKNOT, DUKE WILLIS, PRINCE ALEXANDER, RAS TWIG, ART OFFICIAL, MISTEEK and SPIN ZERO – laying down only the roughest and toughest tunes from Jamaica, the UK, Europe and beyond!
Special guest selectors on the night are DJ LEMON (Roots Foundation), MANRAY (Vital Sounds), THE UNDERCOVER BROTHER(Sandy Bay Social Club) and SOULJAH (Ruffneck Souljah) – bringing the crucial selections each and every time!
Blessing the mic are New Zealand’s finest Reggae vocalists – THE MIGHTY ASTERIX and TUFFY CULTURE – from the esteemed Twelve Tribes Crew – don’t miss the chance to see these two together in the Capital! And at the controls is the dub-master himself, INSPECTOR ITAL, running the effects.
