Dub Echoes is a documentary directed by Bruno Natal (Brazil) that traces the origins of Jamaican dub music and its huge influence on the development of other musical forms including hip-hop and electronica.
It chronicles the evolution of sound and bass and shows how the Jamaican invention called dub has influenced much of the music we hear today and transformed the studio into a musical instrument.

Salmonella Dub – Freak Local EP

Freak Local EP coverAfter a small ripple of apprehension I was relatively relieved when I imported this bad boy into my i-Tunes library to the sound of familiar horn instruments and the groovy backing beat of the opening track, creatively titled Freak Local Radio Cut.

It’s fair to say I was surprised and drawn in by what I heard in the opener but to no avail, more generic New Zealand dub was to follow, the next two tracks drifted off into the liquid void of my brain finding themselves among thousands of other nameless dance tracks that feature soft drums, some form of ethical instrument and dull hooks.   (more…)

Steve Goodman, aka Kode9, is a crucial figure in the world of the dubstep. As well as producing his own brand of dark, futuristic dub music, he runs the Hyperdub label, which has pushed the dubstep genre to new and exciting places with artists such as the Bug, Flying Lotus and the incomparable Burial.  To top it off he is also a lecturer at the University of East London, where he specialises in the subject of Sonic Warfare.  (more…)

Reality Chant Productions proudly present the release of Fyah Bed and Goodness Gracious – singles by Natty King and Hi Kee, off the forthcoming pioneering compilation roots reggae album, Kings Highway!

Jamaican artist, Natty King, dedicates himself to spreading conscious and cultural music, drawing inspiration from The Wailers, Burning Spear and his personal role model, Luciano.  Since his emergence, he has graced the stage of major Jamaican festivals like Sting, Rebel Salute and Reggae Sumfest and has had continued success in JA and internationally.

Also from Jamaica, Hi Kee was given his first opportunity to gain experience on local sound-systems as a youth, recording his first song at age 21 and carrying on his search for musical partners.  He continues to perform and record with labels in Jamaica, France and Finland and is now working on his debut album. Best known for his work with Dubwize Soundsystem and Snypa Levi, producer Messenjah has firmed up the international connections yet again for Kings Highway.
