Ali MC Top Ten – January 2012

Al MC has been involved in music since a young age, teaching himself drums, bass and guitar as a kid. He was in his first band at age twelve, playing drums in his father’s country and western band, where they would perform to marginalized Aboriginal communities in Geraldton, Western Australia.

Growing up in both Australia and New Zealand, he discovered punk music as a teenager, in particular the Clash. This led to him stumbling across all sorts of reggae and dub which has influenced his musical style ever since. (more…)

NiceUp talks to New Delhi based crew, the Reggae Rajahs, about the emerging reggae and dancehall scene in India.

Can you tell us a bit about the Reggae Rajahs – where are you from, how did you start out and what are you all about?

We are New Delhi based, but have all lived abroad and been exposed to music from all over the world. Diggy Dang – born in Delhi, grew up in London, Manila, and the Philippines. Mr. Herbalist – born in Delhi, grew up in Singapore and Boston. Mo City – born in Baghdad, grew up in Delhi.  (more…)

Who/what are some of The Red Eyes major influences and inspirations?

Of course like everyone in New Zealand Bob Marley has been a big formative influence for us.  The Twelve Tribes of Israel Grey Lynn warehouse parties were also a big influence, not to mention listening to Dubhead and Stinky Jim’s radio shows on BFM.  (more…)

Auckland based Iron Will AKA Willi the Kid, is the founder and driving force behind one of NZs toughest reggae production houses, Riddim Central.  Multi talented, Will has come to the forefront of the scene as a promoter, producer, DJ and instrumentalist.  With a long history forwarding dancehall and reggae, Will has played bass in The Midnights, run the epic ‘One Foundation’ series of parties, and produced recent material from The Solomonix, Silva Emcee & Jah Red Lion.


A mainstay of the NZ scene, and the man behind Newtown Sound, NiceUp and the celebrated Ghetto Red Hot series of parties and mixes, Art Official is an accomplished selector, turntablist and producer.  Always ready to rock the dance, expect nothing but the toughest tunes from this Wellington badman.


Having recently relocated from Auckland to the Capital, Paradox is one of NZs hottest dancehall selectors.  He has been part of the Jafa Mafia crew, works with NiceUp, and now spreads his own killa mix of reggae and dancehall on the Radio Active Roots and Culture show and around town.
