Grouch - The Moof Is Rooving - A-List Records (2007)
I can't really rate myself as super knowlegable when it comes to electronica, being a more of a dancehall fanatic. Saying that I guess that just like anything, you still know what you like, and I liked this CD a lot!
Track one started with some cool ragga vocals with a bassline building up to a nice hot-steppy track reminicesent of a good 'On-You Sound' track. Track two started with some crazy sound-bites, slinky basslines and organ loops and fades to simple cymbal tones. Track three throws us into an underwater soundscape and just as you feel relaxed and complacent Grouch hits us with some scary basslines.
Again on track four we get hit with some nice ragga vocals courtesy of S Macaulay and a nicely looping build to this song. Tracks five and six are pretty fast moving electronica which provide some nice contrast . Oscar the Grouch makes his sound-bite intro on track seven which is pretty fast and crazy electronica. Personally I probably liked the earlier tracks a little more than the later, but again I am probably not the target audience for this. Track ten eases us out with a peacefull soundscape
Overall I thought this album was really good and have listened to it many times. Parts reminded me of Daft Punk meets Lee Scratch Perry meets the Mad Professor but saying that it still has an original, eclectic feel to it. Nice one Grouch!
