Rongorock 7″

Daddy Gadman’s “No Human” 7-inch is all about balancing catchy with serious. On the A-side of this Wrongtom production, the veteran UK MC speaks on some truth, with the chorus “no human should eat out of a garbage can”, cutting straight to the heart.

Examining poverty and wealth inequality from a personal and humanist perspective, Daddy Gadman makes the most of the subtle digital echoes of the Suzy riddim.

On the reverse, “Mic Shy” focuses on a slightly smaller-scale issue: the trials and tribulations of performing with less-than-ideal equipment. Whether distortion, dodgy promoters, electric shock, or just those more mic shy than he is, there is plenty to be mindful of when performing on a sound system according to Daddy Gadman.

This is a quality turn on the upbeat Oystah riddim, which Wrongtom originally produced for MC Mark Professor’s clever ode to London’s mass transit card; for completists, there’s also Skweek-A-Mouse’s cheeky holiday-themed “Christmas Card.”

Another winner from young label Rongorock, this is a fine demonstration of mic presence, lyrical diversity, and fast chat from the former Jah Tubby, current Wreck It Up Crew vocalist. Check for the 7″ and digital release on 1 September.
