Born on the first of February 1957, Dennis Emmanuel Brown aka “The Crown Prince of Reggae”, was a prolific Jamaican singer and songwriter. In his life time, he amassed approximately 80 albums and 700 plus singles and EPs. He was taken far too soon on 1 July 1999.
Towards the end of his golden reign, in 1998 he voiced “Slow Down” on Hi Power Music (HP0049). It is produced by General Lee (G. Douglas), mixed by Collin (Bulby) York and powered by Taxi Gang and Dean Fraser.
“Slow Down” begins with an almost cartoon like instrumental intro, but don’t be fooled, the riddim is pure heavyweight. It’s a stern warning to all bad boy and it’s not necessarily all about driving conditions on a foggy, icy road. With the warm, gilded harmonies, this song will capture you.
The Joe Fraser version on the flip is an excellent quality cut for your mix or emcee to work with. Taxi Gang and Dean Fraser absolutely crush it.
