(Selection Train Records)
Selection Train is a record label launched by long time selector and roots stalwart Jerry ‘Perilous’ Davies. Perilous began his selecting career as a founder member of Solution Sound System UK, bringing his deep and rare vinyl gems and dubplates of old, complimenting (at the time) Mark Solution’s mostly modern upfront selections.
The first release on the label in 2015 was a wicked relick of Vin Gordon’s Red Blood. And it appears to be a busy summer ahead for the label with ‘Nefertiti Skank’ coming soon on a 12”, along with a fresh cut of ‘Ghost Town’ 7” and Mark Professor’s ‘Rent Crisis’.
Whether it be on mic duties for Stereo City Sound, killing it in a revive session, tearing up the dancehall and festivals with the Wreck It Up Crew, or mashing up carnival with the Soca Saga Boys, Mark Professor covers pretty much every base in the London reggae scene (and somehow also finds the time to write for NiceUp every now and then).
Here the ever versatile and talented Prof Mark flexes over a fresh cut of the Declaration of Rights riddim. On a topic many of us relate to both in London and further afield, Prof Mark gives us a run down of the never ending spiral of the unaffordability of renting.
For now it’s a digital only release that comes with two vocal cuts and two dark and heavy dubs.
