Micah Williams aka Mr. Williamz is from London, UK. He spent his formative years in the parish of St. Mary in Jamaica with his father, who was a Rasta. Micah began toasting as a youth at the age of eight. He won his first sound clash at a local sound system community event, inspiring him to write more and further himself into the trade. At age 16 he returned to West London and with his younger brother he began setting up a small sound system, recording and cutting dubplates.
Mr. Williamz emerged onto the international reggae scene in 2008 with his debut single “Babylon in Helicopter” (Necessary Mayhem). Later that year he was honoured by the BBC as the UK Artist of the Year. Since then he has been on the rise, working and recording for labels such as Reggae Roast, Jahtari and the Green Lion Crew among others.
He also has ongoing collaborations with drum and bass pioneer Shy FX, most recently the Rudeboy Design Soundtape, named one of the BBC 6 Music Albums of the Year for 2024. Williamz has performed on stage alongside the likes of Chronixx, Damian Marley and Major Lazer. He is also an actor, making his debut in the critically acclaimed feature-length 2018 film Yardie, directed by Idris Elba.
“My Heavenz” is on the “Heavenless” riddim and is produced by Chief Rockas out of Norwich. My copy features on Puffers Choice Vol. 3, released on Scotch Bonnet Records in 2020. It was also released on 7″ vinyl the following year.
Essentially it’s a massive hit, a high grade anthem with a heap of serious bottom end. To add context, Mr. Williamz embraces hemp and its many diverse uses and virtues, encourages listeners to avoid coke and heroin and partake in only the best quality herbs. This track is undeniably witty, uplifting, with horns straight outta a Treasure Isle skank.
