NiceUp talks to MC Beau from Dunedin-based crew, Soundclash Sound.

Soundclash Soundsystem consists of Selectors Mr J and Special K hosted and toasted by myself, MC Beau.

Do you have any regular nights/radio shows?

Between the three of us we gig every week. Mr J is a resident at a club called Di Lusso,  Special K holds down a radio show on Radio 1 every Wednesday 7-9 and I keep up a busy schedule, touring and running my label called Dudstown Recordings.

Can you tell us a bit about the Dunedin scene?

It is quite a transient crowd being a student town. but that has benefits too. We have been lucky enough to support some great national and international acts here in Dunedin. For a small town we are blessed to host the bands and DJ’s we do.

Do you tour around the South Island much?

We have played Christchurch, Nelson, Queenstown, Wanaka and in the north, Auckland.

Have you linked with many crews from the North Island?  How much collaboration do you see between North and South Island crews?

I have seen a bit of collaboration and it’s cool. I’m curently working on some material for High Stakes and also working with the one like Grafta. Both are based in Auckland.

You’re about to release your latest mix – can you give us an idea of what to expect?

Roots One Drop riddims through to bashment and a ‘lil hip-hop if I can help it, lol. It’s being mixed by Mr J so I guess we’ll see. There will be dubplates and a few original tracks in the mix.

What has the crew got planned for the rest of ’09?

Gigs, gigs and more gigs. Plus more original material working with both North Island producers and Dunedin-based talent. Also watch for collaborations with my label, Dudstown Recordings.
