Electro-dancehall heavyweights South Rakkas Crew hit Welly for the first time!
The Guardian has described South Rakkas Crew’s mix of rugged dancehall, shameless pop, hipster electro bangers and rude dubstep as “some of the most electrifying dance music on the planet.”
South Rakkas took an unusual path to becoming the dons of digital funk, first gaining fame for their blazing dancehall riddims and work with dancehall stars such as Vybz Kartel and Busy Signal, who have also featured across a number of Major Lazor hits.
But it is for their eventual work with artists such as Tricky and M.I.A. that XLR8 praised them for their “boundary-pushing” powers. South Rakkas are indeed futuristic rhythm killers than can’t be held down to any one sound or style.
South Rakkas have spent the last few years releasing a string of hits on Diplo’s Mad Decent label, including Mad Again and The Mix Up EPs. In 2010 they dropped The Stimulus Package on Mad Decent, following the better part of a year touring and a string of massively successful Australian festival tour dates in 2009, as well as M.I.A. personally selecting South Rakkas to open her N.E.E.T. label showcase.
