“Road Runner” features on reggae dancehall artist Yeza’s debut album Star of the East, a 12-track collaboration with Rory Stonelove, selector and producer of Stone Love Sound (JA). Released on Black Dub Music, the album blends Yeza’s authentic and beautifully executed vocals and unique style with Rory Stonelove’s dubwise production.

“Road Runner” is a short but punchy take on the classic, foundational “Stalag 17” riddim by Ansel Collins and Winston Riley. Coming in hot at 2:58, it packs a punch but gets you skanking. Yeza’s vocals hit just right with a perfect blend of toasts and melodic trills. “Road Runner” feels instantly familiar but refreshingly new, authentic and commanding. She tells us like it is, unashamedly honest and unpretentious.

“Yeza come fi lock it
Riddim like a semi-automatic don’t stop it
Crime and poverty a dragging hey hey
Times dread so prepare fi fend for yourself…”

With Star of the East up for official consideration for Reggae Album of the Year at the Grammys, Yeza is indeed a rising star in the male-dominated reggae scene and is one to watch closely.
