A weighty sonic triumph, this international collaboration finds Italian singer Awa Fall (aka Sista Awa) linking up with UK producer Shaolin Sound, who also handles the ensuing dub.
While the modern rub a dub rhythm is heavy with dread, the lyrics are ultimately optimistic despite the realities of our being trapped like a crack in the lens of creativity: ‘don’t be afraid to show who you really are.’ The combination is entrancing and intoxicating – an easy rewind when the vibes are right in the dance.
The b-side is thick in all the right ways, a dubwise stew. Crackin’ indeed, this one goes in for those discerning skankers.
Released on digital and 7” (though the limited 50 copies on yellow wax seem to already be gone) through Dig This Way Records’ Bandcamp.
