This album is inviting, warm and dubby. It has cross currents of some of the best chill and dub from the mid-90’s to the late noughties, awakened and re-dubbed. With flying horns from outta space and magical flute parts, it’s a luxurious sound excursion. On black wax it seems full of the right effects in all the right places and moments. It’s a refreshing and welcome take on George Evelyn’s absolute classic, In a Space Outta Sound from 2006.

Nightmares on Wax and Adrian Sherwood emerge twenty years later as the masters of all things cool. Further establishing the two as titans of the UK downbeat, trip hop and dub production scenes, alongside Mad Professor and various other greats. In a Space Outta Dub is a work of fine art, everything feels well balanced, lush, deep and crucial. Phasers set to thrill.

The record is four tracks on either side, eight tracks in total. “You Bliss” is a vital re-work of “You Wish”. It’s a nice update for discerning ears with a familiar groove. Plus new positive vibes and tasty delays. It sets the scene for more Sherwood and On-U genius to come.

“On Purpose”, “Flippin’ Heck” and “Positive Touch” are equally as strong as the opener. The track flow is smooth, with enjoyable changes in mood and vibe. It’s a great way to elevate your soul, soothe your body and mind.

The B-side kicks off with the upbeat, bass soaked “On The Seven Seas Dub”. This is rich in funky horns, an uplifting tune and a real spine tingler. “Looking At You Dub” is a slower groove, a more spacious dub with plenty of enchanted melodica. “Sweeter Still” and “Nyabinghi” round things off in great style.

All these tracks bring the fusion of soul, jazz, funk and rare groove with raw organic trip-hop and hip-hop beats, accompanied with solid dub-fx. The gats, piano and keys really find the sweet spot in the mix, along with cello and funked out flutes, actual whistling and running echoes. All topped off with the most beautifully chopped vocals.

It’s not a massive album run-time wise, at just under 40 minutes you will definitely want for more. But ultimately it delivers on quality and chill vibes. The entire production and mastering is top class. I’d recommend this album to anyone and everyone, such is the wide appeal of these eight psychedelic infused dubs.
