Dubbing Sun, in collaboration with Digid, focus on the heavy vibes with their eponymous record label’s second 7″. The Austrian/Belgian collaboration brings a tight sense of production, from the prerequisite deep bass to the vintage horns to the smoothly layered dub effects.
“Champion Sound,” with vocals from Clinton Sly – whose rough and tough style bounces around the echo chamber quite nicely – is a brash heavyweight selection. They not only ‘run every other sound around,’ but more importantly make clear: ‘and who no like it, well then them can just go.’
On the b-side, the horns are clearer and more triumphant, calling the steppers massive to order. Elements are introduced in turn, until the expected low-end arrives in full. With dub siren in tow, the groove strides forward aggressively, a sense of urgency replacing the swagger brought by Clinton Sly. A strong contribution to the genre.
