London-born with lineage in St. Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean, Solo Banton began songwriting, producing and MCing in the sound system business from an early age. He went on to become a global vocal sensation in dancehall reggae and has been described as one of the pioneers of UK reggae and a legend within the movement. Not an overstatement!
Solo’s recordings include 4 albums and 50 odd singles and EPs, working alongside the best artists and producers in the modern game. He is often conscious and comically diverse with good vibes to match. He has truly big energy on stage as well and hosts the Reggae Land Festival (UK) among many other prestigious honors.
“Bubble n Wine” features on Mungo’s Hi Fi Sound System Champions II (2025). Right from the get-go it is energy energy! Solo is the lyrical party starter and graces these deep grooves with charisma. Bass line thumping, Solo urges listeners to go hard or go home, partying until sunrise. All the while making sure his preferred preference for high grade is known. Riding the riddim to the fullest, it’s the perfect delivery, leaving you wanting more.
As an in demand global touring artist, much loved and respected around the world, Solo is a sight to behold in the live arena. I had the absolute pleasure of witnessing this first hand on his debut New Zealand and Australia tour in 2025.
The good news is he’s back once again in 2026 with shows from 21 March to 11 April, kindly brought to you by NiceUp. Catch him in Sydney, Wellington, Hastings, Nelson, Melbourne, Queenstown, Lyttelton and Auckland. Absolutely unmissable.
