This decision was tougher than I expected because my first introduction to music was through my Mum, who loved the music of artists like Johnny Nash, Derrick Harriot, and Millie Jackson.
But, 1000 Volts of Holt by the legendary John Holt has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Released in 1973, his velvety voice filled our home, bringing my Mum cherished memories of Jamaica, where he was already a star. A true ‘Sweet Bwoy’.
Years later, I had the honor of working with John Holt and telling him how much his music meant to my family. His passing was heartbreaking, especially as we never got to perform together as planned. But before my Mum passed in 2022, I know she felt proud that her youngest son had worked with one of her favourites, an artist who helped shape my journey.
Salute to the legend, Sir John Holt.
Love you, Mum.
