Dapht One is a forward thinking MC, DJ and promoter with a focus on growing and developing the Aotearoa bass culture scene.
After starting out as a bedroom and ‘drunk at that party’ MC on Waiheke Island in 2000, he went on to study live sound and began learning about sound systems.
In 2005 he started his first club-night, Urban Camouflage, with residents Blazem, Nato, Harry Organikismness and B-Line. He also began to MC to drum n bass on low power radio stations like Up FM and Twisted FM.
Around late-2005 dubstep became his main musical focus and he soon after started a weekly show on Base FM. After receiving an offer to promote DJ Pinch, the Dubstep Alliance Crew came into being. In 2008 Dapht One began a fortnightly session at Blowfish Sushi in Parnell, later moving to Rising Sun where the crew were in residence for a year, always bringing in extra bass-bins and running things heavy!
Dapht One has promoted a number of shows under Beats People Movement and Dubstep Alliance including The Bug, Flying Lotus, Pinch, Cotti, Headhunter and Starkey and has MC’d alongside a number of the international dubstep acts in Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Auckland such as Mala, Benga, N-Type, Pinch, Loefah, Cotti, Headhunter and RSD.
He also performs on the regular alongside OoGuN and other Alliance DJs at different venues around NZ, has co-hosted the Gibzone festival in Queenstown with MC KP and often MC’s in Christchurch with the Subtle soundsystem crew.
Dapht One has recently opened Uptown Records on K-Road – specialising in dubstep and drum n bass vinyl with plenty of other surprises.
